We see a problem with ProPublica: it concentrates on government -- and only on government. It confirms that news hacks essentially see no need for serious news coverage outside of government. Of course so much of what is newsworthy happens outside of government, but the hacks have too many reasons not to cover it -- in business (never know when that networking could come in handy!), in real estate (anyone with houses to sell? We can help!), in the sciences (where the hacks never lose a chance to display their ignorance), and especially in pop cul-TYURE, our close and infallible brother. By making government its business, its only business, ProPublica has effectively neutered itself.
