He has a talent for figuring out what everyone would want to talk about, and then he writes a quick, mediocre piece on the subject that doesn't do it justice or that takes an extreme position for effect--but that says just enough to kill off the interest of other, better journalists in tackling the issue. (Boldface for effect included)
And Mickey has a talent for figuring out what WONKS want to talk about, and then writing a quick, snickering piece on the subject filled with factoids and bald "insider" assertions -- but that says just enough to kill off the interest of any non-Beltway type wanting to tackle the issue.
