Speaking of torture...I don't like masticating a subject everyone else has already digested. Torture makes us look like a third-world republic. But the seventies teach us the consequences of turning out the lights, locking the door and throwing away the key on national security, especially in the name of "morals". The villainous Henry Luce was once quoted as saying (or once quoted someone to the effect that) the hardest of heads guides the softest of hearts. Of course he had a hard heart too. He was still right.
And con-SER-va-tives who delude themselves into thinking this is Jimmy Carter Redux had better steel themselves up for a good dose of Nixon. And this Nixon may not need an enemies list to manifest the same effect.
